The AU Emerging Global Leader Scholarship (AU EGLS) promotes educational access and opportunity while enhancing international diversity. Bringing together the best of AU\u2014academic excellence, leadership development, and global engagement\u2014AU Emerging Global Leader Scholars achieve, inspire, and serve\u00a0with vision.<\/p>\n<p>The AU EGLs are dedicated to positive civic and social change to help address issues faced by under-resourced, underserved communities in their home country.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Scholarship<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The AU EGL scholarship covers all billable AU expenses (full tuition, room, and board) for\u00a0two\u00a0international students who will need a non-immigrant visa (preferably an F-1 or J-1 student visa) to study in the United States. The scholarship does\u00a0not\u00a0cover non-billable expenses such as mandatory health insurance, books, airline tickets, taxes, and miscellaneous expenses which students will need to pay out of pocket\u00a0(approximately US$4,000 per year).<\/li>\n<li>In addition to the two full AU Emerging Global Leader Scholarships covering all billable expenses, AU will also offer up to eight additional AU EGL partial scholarships valued at up to US$40,000\/per year.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Eligibility<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You are NOT eligible to apply if:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You are a U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident,\u00a0U.S. pending permanent resident, or dual citizen of the U.S. and another country.<\/li>\n<li>You are enrolled in or have already begun any post-secondary studies at another university in your home country or the United States.<\/li>\n<li>You graduated secondary school earlier than 2023.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Application<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Complete and submit the Common Application\u00a0with all required documents per the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.american.edu\/admissions\/international\/instructions.cfm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">AU international instructions checklist<\/a>\u00a0before January 15, 2026.<\/li>\n<li>Create your applicant portal when invited to do so.<\/li>\n<li>Submit a bank letter and the completed and signed\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.american.edu\/admissions\/international\/upload\/2024-2025-AU-DFF-Form-and-Instructions.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">AU Declaration of Finances Form (AU DFF)<\/a>,\u00a0each confirming a minimum of US$4,000. These can be uploaded via your applicant portal.<\/li>\n<li>Submit your official TOEFL,\u00a0IELTS,\u00a0Duolingo English, PTE, or Cambridge Assessment English\u00a0Test score results\u00a0before January 15, 2026. Please have official English proficiency score reports sent directly\u00a0by the testing agency to American University, Undergraduate Admissions, Washington, District of Columbia. Note: Students\u00a0cannot\u00a0submit their own results.<\/li>\n<li>If you are applying through a program supported by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/educationusa.state.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">EducationUSA<\/a>\u00a0or if you are a past FLEX or YES high school scholarship recipient from the U.S. Department of State, provide a letter from your EducationUSA center\u2019s adviser confirming your candidacy.
