Each summer, CERN Openlab runs a nine-week programme for bachelor\u2019s and master\u2019s students specialising in subjects related to computer science. These students work on cutting-edge projects with our collaborators, gaining hands-on experience with the latest computing technologies.<\/p>\n<p>By joining the CERN openlab summer student programme, you will work with some of the latest hardware and software technologies and see how advanced computing tools are used in high-energy physics. The CERN openlab summer student programme offers multiple opportunities for learning, innovation, and career growth through hands-on experience with cutting-edge technologies and world-leading experts.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Benefits<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A 93 CHF per calendar day (tax free) subsistence allowance.<\/li>\n<li>Coverage by CERN\u2019s comprehensive Health Insurance scheme (contribution already deducted from allowance).\u00a0<em>The few students who are paid directly from a national funding agency have to come to CERN with their own insurance coverage.<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Travel expenses to Geneva upon joining CERN, depending on your individual circumstances.<\/li>\n<li>An extensive physics lecture programme (students will also be able to attend a series of IT lectures organized by Openlab).<\/li>\n<li>Assistance to find accommodation on the CERN site or nearby.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Eligibility<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You are a Bachelor\u2019s or Master\u2019s student (not a PhD candidate) with a strong computing profile\u00a0and you have completed at least 6 semesters (3 academic years) of full-time university studies in one of these fields by the start of the summer.<\/li>\n<li>You have not worked at CERN for more than 3 months under any other status, and you have not previously participated in the Summer Student Programme at CERN.<\/li>\n<li>You have a good knowledge of English.<\/li>\n<li>You remain enrolled as a full-time student at least until the start of your summer at CERN.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>Candidates of all nationalities are welcome to apply for this OPENLAB Summer Student Programme.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Application<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You will need the following documents, in English or French, clearly labelled (e.g. \u201cCV\u201d, \u201cAcademic transcript\u201d, etc.) and in PDF format to complete your application:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>CV in English (check <a href=\"https:\/\/careers.cern\/tips-cv\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CERN CV tips<\/a> for some advice on how to write your CV).<\/li>\n<li>A copy of your most recent official academic transcript (if you download it from your university portal make sure there is no protection so that they can open it).<\/li>\n<li>An academic reference letter (dated less than 12 months).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Recommended, not mandatory:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Motivation letter with an indication of the preferred area of work.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.smartrecruiters.com\/CERN\/744000092333788-cern-openlab-summer-student-programme-2026\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Click here to apply<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For more information, visit <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/openlab.cern\/cern-openlab-summer-student-programme\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CERN OpenLab<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text]<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"[vc_column_text css=\"\"] Deadline: January 26, 2026 Applications are open for the CERN Openlab Summer Student Programme 202.
