Code for Africa (CfA) is offering stipend\u2010based WanaData Fellowships to fourteen (14) African Data journalists and Data Scientists to empower youth voices and promote a secure digital space through gender projects.<\/p>\n<p>These Fellowships are part of a joint initiative between Code for Africa, the European Partnership for Democracy (EPD), AfricTivistes, CFI Media Development, the World Scout Bureau Africa Regional Office, and the Kofi Annan Foundation (KAF), with contributions from the Netherlands Institute for Multiparty Democracy (NIMD). This initiative, under the WanaData Initiative, aims to address content gaps on gender projects related to the African Union Convention on Cybersecurity and Personal Data Protection, e-democracy, digital mobilisation in social movements, SDG16, freedom of expression, and human rights in the Sahel region, neighbouring West Africa, and the Horn of Africa.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Benefits<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Each Fellow receives a stipend of USD 250 per month<\/li>\n<li>Hands-on data tools and technical training, one-on-one mentorship, and ongoing support from CfA\u2019s Communities and Academy Team.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Eligibility<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Be a registered WanaData member with at least one\u00a0(1) year of experience as a data scientist or data storyteller (journalist, media content creator, etc). You must have a portfolio of published work you can share.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Ideally, be based in the Sahel region, neighbouring West Africa, or the Horn of Africa (exceptional applicants from elsewhere in Africa may be considered)<\/li>\n<li>Be fluent in English or French (Bilingual is a plus)<\/li>\n<li>Have a keen interest in digital rights, gender and youth civic engagement<\/li>\n<li>Have experience in gender data research<\/li>\n<li>Possess an interest in the fellowship\u2019s thematic focus, including cybersecurity and Personal Data Protection, e-democracy, digital mobilisation in social movements, gender SDG16, freedom of expression, and human rights, among others.
