The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), in partnership with the Government of Iceland, has issued a call for nominations for the 2026 Vigd\u00eds Prize for Women\u2019s Empowerment.<\/p>\n<p>Launched in 2023 and named after Vigd\u00eds Finnbogad\u00f3ttir, the first woman in the world to be elected as a Head of State, it rewards outstanding individuals, organisations or initiatives that have demonstrated significant commitment to empowering women and girls in all their diversity.<\/p>\n<p>At a time when women\u2019s rights and gender equality face increasing challenges across Europe and beyond, the Prize recognises achievements in advancing gender equality, promoting equal participation in decision-making, and fostering inclusive policies and practices that contribute to women\u2019s full and equal participation in political, social, and economic life. The 2026 Vigd\u00eds Prize will be awarded at an official ceremony in Strasbourg on\u00a022 June 2026, during the Summer part-session of the Parliamentary Assembly.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Prize<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>This annual Prize consists of a sum of \u20ac60,000 and a trophy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Eligibility<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Individuals or civil society groups, including national or international non-governmental organisations, associations and private companies may be nominated for the Prize.<\/li>\n<li>Current members of the Parliamentary Assembly and deceased individuals will not be eligible.<\/li>\n<li>Nominations should be submitted in English or French and must be supported by the signatures of at least five sponsors.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Application<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Complete the <a href=\"https:\/\/forms.office.com\/e\/uBS1upWNtH\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">2026 nomination form<\/a>, providing details about the nominee and their actions to promote women\u2019s empowerment.<\/li>\n<li>You should also include\u00a0the signatures of at least five sponsors\u00a0using the sponsors\u2019 signatures form.
