The Public Humanities Fellowships help writers, independent scholars, community historians, and college and university faculty members share meaningful research, stories, and cultural expressions that are relevant to Virginia\u2019s diverse communities and that connect audiences to wider regional, national, and global contexts.\u00a0If you\u2019re engaged in the public humanities, and you\u2019re interested in sharing your work with a wider audience, they would love to hear from you.<\/p>\n<p>Since 1974, they have awarded more than 400 fellowships for projects that help Virginians better understand the state, Virginia\u2019s role in the world, and each other.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Benefits<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>All Public Humanities Fellows will receive a $15,000 stipend to support a four-month project.<\/li>\n<li>Fellows will receive access to both the University of Virginia\u2019s library system and the archives available at the Library of Virginia to complete their projects.<\/li>\n<li>They will become part of a community of fellows working on innovative humanities topics in the public interest and will have the opportunity to share their ideas with other fellows working in related fields.<\/li>\n<li>They may also have the opportunity to participate in programs such as our\u00a0<em>With Good Reason<\/em>\u00a0radio show and podcast, Virginia Festival of the Book\u2019s Shelf Life, and the Library of Virginia\u2019s UncommonWealth blog.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Eligibility<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Fellows must be eighteen years or older, reside in Virginia\u00a0or\u00a0be affiliated with\u00a0a Virginia college or university, and be working on a project that is relevant to communities within Virginia.<\/li>\n<li>Direct affiliation with a college or university is not required.<\/li>\n<li>They are especially interested in applicants with experience engaging large, diverse, public audiences.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Application<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Applications will close Tuesday, March 31, 2026<\/li>\n<li>Applicants will be notified of decisions in May 2026<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.grantinterface.com\/Opportunity\/Catalog?urlkey=vh\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Click here to apply<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For more information, visit <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/virginiahumanities.org\/fellowships\/public-humanities-fellowships\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Public Humanities Fellowship<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text]<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"[vc_column_text css=\"\"] Deadline: March 31, 2026 Applications are open for the Virginia Humanities Public Humanities Fellowship 2026.
