The UNESCO Prize for Girls\u2019 and Women\u2019s Education honours outstanding and innovative contributions made by individuals, institutions, and organizations to advance\u00a0girls\u2019 and women\u2019s education. It is the first UNESCO Prize of this nature and is unique in showcasing successful projects that improve and promote the educational prospects of girls and women and in turn, the quality of their lives.<\/p>\n<p>Funded by the Government of the People\u2019s Republic of China, the Prize is conferred annually to two laureates and consists of an award of US $50,000 each to help further their work in the area of girls\u2019 and women\u2019s education. The Director-General of UNESCO awarded the Prize for the first time in 2016.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Award<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Each laureate will receive an award of US$50,000.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Eligibility<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Nominations are made by governments of UNESCO Member States or\u00a0non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in official partnership with UNESCO.<\/li>\n<li>They can nominate up to three individuals, institutions, or organizations making strong, innovative contributions to girls\u2019 and women\u2019s education.<\/li>\n<li>Self-nominations are not possible.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Nomination<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Nominations can be submitted via the dedicated online platform in English or French by a\u00a0National Commission\u00a0or\u00a0Permanent Delegation to UNESCO\u00a0of the concerned Member State, or by an\u00a0NGO in official partnership with UNESCO.<\/p>\n<p>Nominations submitted by a Member State\u2019s National Commission must be validated by the Permanent Delegation. Nominations from an NGO in official partnership with UNESCO must be validated by the organization\u2019s headquarters.
