The International Mathematical Union (IMU) Breakout Graduate Fellowships offers a limited number of grants for excellent students from developing countries.<\/p>\n<p>Professional mathematicians are invited to nominate highly motivated and mathematically talented students from developing countries who plan to complete a doctoral degree in a developing country, including their own home country. Nominees must have a consistently good academic record and must be seriously interested in pursuing a career of research and teaching in mathematics.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Benefits<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The awarded grant is limited to a maximum of US$10,000 per year<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The stipend may be used to cover the following costs:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Tuition Fees<\/li>\n<li>Travel Expenses to Institution of Study<\/li>\n<li>Housing<\/li>\n<li>Basic living expenses<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Eligibility<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Requirements for Nominators<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Be a university professor in mathematics with a PhD, based at a university or research center<\/li>\n<li>Be currently supervising mathematics Master\u2019s or PhD students.<\/li>\n<li>Individual PhD candidates cannot apply themselves for the fellowship.<\/li>\n<li>It is advisable that the nominator has mentored the nominee previously<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>Requirements for Student Nominees<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Students nominated under this program must:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Be undertaking their PhD in either a recognized university or a research institution in one of the\u00a0developing countries as defined by the IMU.<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrate an outstanding academic track record in mathematical sciences and aspire to a career in mathematical teaching and research<\/li>\n<li>Be a citizen\u00a0of and resident\u00a0in\u00a0one of the\u00a0developing countries as defined by the IMU<\/li>\n<li>Have already been accepted (or pre-accepted) into a recognized doctoral program<\/li>\n<li>Have a thesis advisor and a research project<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Note:\u00a0<\/strong>Students who are part of a joint graduate program involving institutions in countries outside of IMU\u2019s definition of developing countries are not eligible for nomination.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Application<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The following documents must be uploaded as part of the application by the application deadline:<\/p>\n<p><em>Letters of Nominations and Recommendations<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Letter of Nomination<\/li>\n<li>Letters of Recommendation (2)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>Student Documents<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Proposed Research Project<\/li>\n<li>Letter of Motivation and Future Plans<\/li>\n<li>CV of Student Nominee<\/li>\n<li>Official letter of (pre-)acceptance in the PhD program<\/li>\n<li>Transcripts of coursework (certified copies)\n<ul>\n<li>BSc degree or equivalent<\/li>\n<li>MSc degree or equivalent<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>PhD Supervisor Documents<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>PhD Supervisor CV<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Note:\u00a0<\/strong>All documents must be submitted in English.
