The World Bank\u2019s Development Economics Vice Presidency (DEC) provides scholarships to students and young researchers, contributing to the World Bank\u2019s mission of forging new dynamic approaches to capacity development and knowledge sharing in the developing world.<\/p>\n<p>It is an important component of the World Bank\u2019s efforts to promote economic development and shared prosperity through investing in education, capacity building, and developing human resources in the developing world. Since 1982, the DEC\u2019s scholarship programs have helped to form a pool of over 7,000 well-trained and experienced development professionals and scholars, transforming their countries and positively impacting future generations.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Scholarship<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The JJ\/WBGSP scholarship provides the recipient with the following benefits:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Economy class air travel between your home country and the host university at the start of your study program and immediately following the end of the scholarship period. In addition to the two-way air travel, scholars will receive a US $600 travel allowance for each trip;<\/li>\n<li>Tuition for your graduate program and the cost of basic medical insurance obtained through the university.<\/li>\n<li>While on campus during the scholarship period, a monthly subsistence allowance to cover all living expenses (accommodations, food, etc., including books). The amount of the allowance varies depending on the host country.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Eligibility<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Be a national of a World Bank member developing country on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.worldbank.org\/en\/programs\/scholarships\/brief\/countries-eligible-for-jjwbgsp-scholarship\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">this list<\/a>;<\/li>\n<li>Not hold dual citizenship of any developed country;<\/li>\n<li>Be in good health;<\/li>\n<li>Hold a bachelor\u2019s (or equivalent) degree earned at least 3 years prior to the Application Deadline date;<\/li>\n<li>Be employed in development-related work in a paid full- time position at the time of submitting the scholarship application. Have at least 3 years of paid development-related employment since earning a bachelor\u2019s degree (or equivalent university degree) and acquired within the past 6 years from the date of the application deadline.<\/li>\n<li>On or before the scholarship application deadline date, be admitted unconditionally (except for funding) for the upcoming academic year to at least one of the\u00a0JJ\/WBGSP participating master\u2019s programs\u00a0located outside of the applicant\u2019s country of citizenship and country of residence listed at the time the call for scholarship applications opens.\u00a0The letter of admission must be uploaded before submitting the scholarship application.<\/li>\n<li>Not be an Executive Director, his\/her alternate, and\/or staff of any type of appointment of the World Bank Group or a close relative of the aforementioned by blood or adoption with the term \u201cclose relative\u201d defined as: Mother, Father, Sister, Half-sister, Brother, Half-brother, Son, Daughter, Aunt, Uncle, Niece, or Nephew.<\/li>\n<li>Individuals who have previously been offered a JJ\/WBGSP scholarship but declined it, or have previously received a JJ\/WBGSP scholarship but did not graduate, are not eligible to apply again.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Application<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The 2026 application window for Japanese nationals is open.
