The award encourages scientific programs\u00a0focused on understanding and improving\u00a0phosphorus (P) management in Africa\u2019s field or tree crop agroecosystems.\u00a0The fellowships are available to scientists working in an African NARES institution (National Agricultural Research and Extension System) or African university.<\/p>\n<p>The African Plant Nutrition Institute (APNI) is a not-for-profit research and\u00a0education organization founded in 2019 and based in Bengu\u00e9rir, Morocco. Their mission is enhanced plant nutrition for a resilient and food-secure Africa.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Award<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Awards of USD $5,000 each are available to up to five full-time scientists working in an African NARES institution (National Agricultural Research and Extension System) or African university.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Eligibility<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Applicants must be full time scientists\u00a0working at an African NARES institution or university. Applications from scientists in Post Doctorate positions are also eligible for this award.\u00a0Only applicants who have completed their Ph.D. program will be considered.<\/li>\n<li>Applicants must\u00a0submit a creative proposal\u00a0that addresses current knowledge gaps or synthesizes existing information leading to improved P management.\u00a0Of particular interest are proposals that can address P management in combination with at least one of APNI\u2019s high priority topics below:\n<ul>\n<li>4R Nutrient Stewardship\u00a0(e.g., matching crop growth dynamics with P applications based on adjustments in source, rate, time, or placement)<\/li>\n<li>Carbon farming\u00a0(e.g., biomass turn over and P applications)<\/li>\n<li>Soil health\u00a0(e.g., residue management and soil P status, innovative P use and cropping system diversification, P management and dynamics in no-till systems, management of P in problem soils such as high P-fixing soils)<\/li>\n<li>Precision farming\u00a0(e.g., innovations in addressing P variability at field scale)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Evidence of any scientific partnerships and\u00a0institutional collaboration will be reviewed\u00a0favourably. Female scientists are especially\u00a0encouraged to apply.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Application<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In order to complete the application process, you will need to submit the following in either English or French:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A description of how the Fellowship will lead\u00a0to improved understanding of P management\u00a0in agricultural systems. This should outline\u00a0any new research, data synthesis, or travel\u00a0that will be supported with the Fellowship\u00a0funds. Include sufficient detail that will\u00a0permit evaluation of its originality, innovative\u00a0approach, and relevance.<\/li>\n<li>Electronic copy of two letters of support,\u00a0one of which must be from the applicant\u2019s\u00a0supervisor.
