Deadline: May 19, 2026
Apply now to join the Institute of Human Development Child and Youth Health (IHDCYH) Youth Advisory Council 2026. The Institute of Human Development, Child and Youth Health (IHDCYH)’s Youth Advisory Council is a group of diverse young Canadians who are passionate about health and health research. The council brings the youth voice directly into conversations about priority development, policies and issues that impact Canadian communities from coast to coast to coast.
Youth council members meet online to share thoughts and ideas with each other and IHDCYH and discuss health related topics that are important to them and their communities. Council members represent regions across Canada and reflect diverse backgrounds and life experiences.
Benefits
- Council members are offered an annual honorarium for their time. Members are also offered the option to count their participation on the council as volunteer time if preferred over an honorarium, and all members receive a certificate of participation at the end of their term. When invited to travel to represent IHDCYH at events, travel costs are covered for council members.
Eligibility
- To be considered for the Youth Advisory Council (YAC), you must be between the ages of 12 and 25;
- Live in Canada
- Be able to commit to participating about 3-5 hours per month (for example, in regular virtual meetings from September to June, some online engagement in between meetings, and in virtual working groups with other members). There may be occasional opportunities for Council members to represent the YAC at in-person events, depending on location, event focus, and available budget.
- Council members are invited to serve a two-year term. You should be available to serve for the period.
- If you are under the legal age in your home province or territory and you are invited to be a member of the council, they will require consent from your parent or guardian for you to participate.
Application
The application contains several demographic questions (about your age, where you live, etc.) There are also four short writing prompts, each with a maximum response length of about 150 words. You may wish to think about and write these in advance and then copy and paste your response into the application form when you are ready. These prompts are:
- Please tell us about yourself.
- What skills, strengths and/or experiences would you like to contribute to the council, and why?
- What groups or communities would you be able to represent on the council, and why are they important?
- Please share with us your experiences or thoughts on equity, diversity, and/or inclusion.
